Common Issues

Smart lock problems we solve.

Whether you are installing a brand new smart lock or your existing one is acting up, here are the issues we handle every day.

!

Keypad Unresponsive

You press the buttons and nothing happens. Could be dead batteries, a firmware glitch, or a hardware failure.

!

WiFi Won't Connect

The lock won't pair with your home WiFi. You can not control it remotely or get notifications on your phone.

!

Battery Draining Fast

You just changed the batteries and they are already dying. Usually a connectivity issue or a mechanical drag on the bolt.

!

Auto-Lock Not Working

The door is supposed to lock itself after 30 seconds but it does not. The setting may be off, or the bolt is not engaging properly.

!

Code Not Programming

You are trying to add a new user code and the lock will not accept it. Could be a full code list, a master code issue, or a firmware bug.

!

Deadbolt Jammed

The smart lock motor is trying to extend the bolt but it gets stuck. Usually a misaligned strike plate or a bolt that is hitting the frame.

New smart lock installation

Installing a smart lock is more than just swapping hardware. The deadbolt hole needs to be the right size. The door thickness matters. The WiFi signal at the door needs to be strong enough. We handle all of that. We remove your old deadbolt, prep the door if needed, install the new smart lock, connect it to your WiFi or Bluetooth, program your master code and user codes, and test the lock from inside and outside. We also show you how to use the app, add codes, and check the battery level. When we leave, you will know exactly how your new lock works.

Our Process

How we install smart locks.

We have installed hundreds of smart locks across the Treasure Coast. Here is exactly what happens during a typical installation visit.

01

Check Door Compatibility

We measure the door thickness, check the deadbolt bore size, and test your WiFi signal strength at the door. If anything needs adjusting, we handle it.

02

Remove Old Hardware

We take out the existing deadbolt and clean up the bore holes. If the holes need to be enlarged for the new lock, we do that carefully.

03

Install and Connect

We mount the smart lock, connect it to your WiFi or Bluetooth, download the app on your phone, and pair everything together.

04

Program and Test

We set up your master code, add user codes, configure auto-lock settings, and test the lock from inside and outside. We walk you through everything.

August WiFi Smart Lock lets you keep your existing key on the outside. Yale Assure works great with Apple HomeKit, Google, and Alexa. Level Lock is nearly invisible and fits inside the door. We can help you pick the right one for your situation, your door, and your smart home setup. Just ask when you call.

Frequently Asked Questions

Smart lock questions we get asked all the time.

How much does smart lock installation cost? +
Smart lock installation runs $149 to $350 for labor. This covers removal of the old lock, installation of the new smart lock, programming codes, connecting to WiFi or Bluetooth, and testing everything. The lock itself is separate unless you want us to supply it.
Can you install a smart lock on any door? +
Most standard residential doors with a single-bore deadbolt cutout work with smart locks. Some older doors or doors with non-standard hole spacing may need minor modifications. We check your door before starting and let you know if there are any compatibility issues.
Which smart lock brand do you recommend? +
It depends on what matters most to you. Schlage Encode is great for reliability and WiFi connectivity. Kwikset Halo is solid and easy to rekey. August WiFi Smart Lock works if you want to keep your existing deadbolt exterior. Yale Assure is a good all-around pick. We install all of them and can help you choose.
How long does smart lock installation take? +
Most smart lock installations take 30 to 60 minutes. That includes removing the old lock, installing the new one, programming access codes, connecting to your WiFi or Bluetooth, and testing the lock from inside and outside.
My smart lock keypad is not responding. Can you fix it? +
Yes. Unresponsive keypads are usually caused by dead batteries, a firmware issue, or a wiring problem. We diagnose and fix smart lock issues on all major brands. If the lock needs replacing, we can install a new one on the same visit.
Do smart locks work if the power goes out? +
Yes. Smart locks run on batteries, not your home electrical system. Most smart locks last 6 to 12 months on a set of batteries. If the batteries die, most models have a physical key backup or an emergency power terminal where you can touch a 9V battery to power the lock temporarily.
Can you program additional access codes on my existing smart lock? +
Absolutely. We can add, change, or delete access codes on any smart lock brand. We can also set up time-limited codes for guests or service providers, set up auto-lock schedules, and configure notifications if your lock supports them.
Will a smart lock work with my existing deadbolt hole? +
In most cases, yes. Smart locks are designed to fit standard deadbolt preparations. If your door has a non-standard cutout, we may need to adjust the hole slightly. We check compatibility before we start drilling anything.
