Signs your screen door needs repair or replacement.
Screen doors take a beating in Florida. Between kids running through them, pets scratching at them, wind catching them, and the sun breaking down the mesh over time, it's no wonder they're one of our most common service calls. A damaged screen door lets in mosquitoes, no-see-ums, love bugs, and all the other insects that make Treasure Coast evenings miserable. Here's what to watch for.
Torn or Ripped Screen Mesh
Even a small tear lets bugs inside. Florida mosquitoes don't need much room. A torn screen needs fixing before warm weather hits.
Screen Falls Off Track
The door lifts out of the track or won't stay in place when you slide it. Usually caused by worn rollers or a bent bottom rail.
Frame Is Bent or Warped
The aluminum frame has been hit, stepped on, or warped from heat. A bent frame won't sit flat in the track.
Rollers Stuck or Broken
The screen door drags or won't slide at all. The small plastic or nylon rollers at the bottom have cracked or seized up.
Screen Doesn't Close Fully
There's a gap between the screen door and the frame when closed. Bugs come straight through. Usually a track or roller issue.
Pet Damage to Screen
Dogs and cats scratch, push, and claw through standard fiberglass mesh. Pet screen is the solution for repeat offenders.
Florida screens don't last as long as you'd think
Standard fiberglass screen mesh lasts about 5 to 7 years in the Treasure Coast climate. UV rays from the Florida sun break down the material, making it brittle and easy to tear. Homes near the water in Hutchinson Island and Jensen Beach see even faster degradation from salt air. If your screen mesh looks faded, feels crispy, or has small holes appearing on their own, it's time for a rescreen. We use UV-resistant mesh that holds up better than the original builder-grade material.

How we repair and replace screen doors.
Screen door repair is quick. It's one of our fastest service calls, and we come prepared with mesh, rollers, spline, and common frame sizes on the truck.
Inspect the Screen Door
We check the mesh, frame, rollers, track fit, and hardware. Is it a simple rescreen? Roller swap? Or does the whole door need replacing? We tell you before we start.
Remove the Screen Door
We lift the screen door off the track. If the frame is reusable, we strip out the old mesh and spline. If the frame is bent beyond repair, we measure for a new one.
Rescreen or Replace
New mesh is stretched tight across the frame and locked in with fresh spline. For a full replacement, we build or install a new screen door sized to your track.
Reinstall and Adjust
The screen door goes back on the track. We adjust rollers for smooth slide, set the height so it clears the threshold, and make sure it closes tight with no gaps for bugs.
Screen mesh options for every situation
Not all screen is the same. We offer four types. Standard fiberglass is the most affordable and works for most homes. Pet-resistant screen is thicker, vinyl-coated polyester that dogs and cats can't easily tear. Solar screen blocks up to 90% of UV rays and reduces heat, perfect for west-facing doors in Palm City and Port St. Lucie. And no-see-um mesh has a finer weave that keeps out those tiny biting insects common near the Indian River Lagoon. We'll help you pick the right one for your home.
Screen door rollers wear out too
The rollers on screen doors are smaller and lighter-duty than the rollers on your glass sliding door, but they still wear out. Screen door rollers are typically plastic or nylon, and they crack, flatten, or seize up over time. If your screen door drags, sticks, or won't stay on the track, the rollers are usually the culprit. We carry the most common screen door roller sizes for brands like Andersen, Pella, and JELD-WEN right on the truck.
