Humidity and waterway moisture are the main enemies in Hobe Sound.

Hobe Sound doesn't get the direct ocean salt spray that Hutchinson Island does, but it has its own challenges. NOAA data for the Treasure Coast shows average humidity above 75% year-round, and in Hobe Sound it's often higher. The Intracoastal Waterway runs along the east side of town, and Jonathan Dickinson State Park borders the west and south. That combination creates a damp, enclosed environment where moisture hangs in the air and settles into everything, including sliding door hardware. Rollers corrode from the inside out.
